Biography

Patrick Herring is a second year Ph.D. student in French and Francophone Studies. He studied French and German at Cambridge University, England, and spent the majority of his career as a teacher of both languages in UK high schools. Patrick is a dual French/British national who loves to teach aspiring linguists and to communicate his enthusiasm for all things French in his capacity as a GTA at KU. In June 2025, he accompanied the KU Summer Language Institute students to Normandy and Paris. His research interests lie principally on literature concerned with the Occupation 1940-44, with a focus on the work of the novelist Patrick Modiano. In his spare time, he likes to hike, cycle, travel and cook with his wife Sarah, who is a Professor in the Classics Department at KU.
