Biography

Patrick Herring is a first year Ph.D. student in French and Francophone Studies at the University of Kansas. He graduated from Cambridge University, England, where he studied French and German, and has spent the majority of his career teaching both languages in UK high schools. Patrick is a dual French/British national and likes to spend as much time in France as possible; he loves to teach the language to aspiring linguists and to communicate his enthusiasm for all things French. His research interests lie principally in the literature of the Occupation of 1940-44, with a focus on the ways in which authors and poets dreamed of a better future which later manifested itself in the European project.

In his spare time, he likes to hike, cycle, travel and cook with his wife Sarah, who is a Professor in the Classics Department at KU.
