Biography

Lauralyn was born in Lawrence and have been a resident of Douglas County for most of her life, although she has lived in Costa Rica, Italy, and a handful of other places in the United States.  The University of Kansas issued her undergraduate degree, a B.A. in mathematics and psychology.  She did very little of the work here, though, having already acquired most of the required credits while in high school, at Cottey College, and at the University of Costa Rica before she returned to Kansas.  She began teaching Italian while working toward a Professional Master of Architecture, and she never looked back.

Research

As a Lecturer, Lauralyn's duties at the university do not include research.  If they did, it would probably be in the area of traditional music. She has been a musician all her life and perform throughout the region and internationally.  She trained classically as a child, but now play primarily traditional music in several genres.  She plays numerous stringed instruments, including the nyckelharpa; although a traditional instrument from Sweden, there is a training center in Italy and considerable collaboration between the two countries.

Teaching

Lauralyn has taught all of our introductory courses in Italian, most often ITAL 110 and ITAL 120.
