Helena Buchmann is a first-year MA student and GTA in the Department of French & Italian. She graduated from KU in May 2016 with a BA in French and Global & International Studies. She received departmental honors in French for her work on two papers: “Les représentations de l’avortement dans la littérature française depuis 1945: une evolution de l’obscurité à la transparence” and “Albert Camus ni Français, ni Algérien: la complexité de représenter comme pied-noir une Algérie en tension dans L’étranger.” As a graduate student, she was awarded Foreign Language Area Studies grants to study Arabic at the Kansas African Studies Center’s Summer African Language Institute and during the 2016-2017 academic year.
